In the summer of 2021 the proposal for the expansion of the Amelia Cornelius Culture Park was submitted for Tribal Contribution Savings Funding in December 2022.
The Amelia Cornelius Culture Park Team is made up of Michelle Danforth Anderson, Marketing & Tourism Director, Leah Stroobants, Cultural Event Coordinator, Paul Witek, Director of Engineering, Briggs Noble, Construction Manager, Troy Parr Community Development Area Manager, Suzanne Jordan, Grounds Keeping Manager.
The project has 5 phases with estimated completion date Summer 2024.
1. Veterans Wall Upgrades – parking & sidewalks.
2. Visitor Center Area – including bathrooms, pavilion and parking lot.
3. Accessible side walks and ramps.
4. Tear down and rebuild DPW grounds garage.
5. Roadway repairs and cul du sac next to language house.
May – June 2022 Funding was approved by the BC. The team worked on formalizing the CIP package for tracking within the tribal systems and the Land Commission. First step in any construction project is to do a site survey and soil boring testing. This looks at the overall ups & downs of the slope of the landscape. Then the the soil boring testing confirms that the ground can hold different structures proposed for the site.
August 2022 Final soil boring report received. Next steps: Grounds work on floor plan for new DPW Grounds garage.
October 26. 2022 Formal BC approval of CIP 19-004 with activation of funds.
November 2022 Mapping received. Engineering design proposals in process for Veterans Wall and pathways.
Dec.-January 2023 – As part of the construction design process is to have multiple discussions about the needs of the area. Here is an example of how discussions shape the concept of the new DPW garage created by Paul Witek. Originally, the new garage was planned at a different location but due to the proximity of Finger Lake the project needed to be moved to the previous CH house.
